  • Elementary Schools

    • DAWES SCHOOL
      Dawes School serves children in grades pre-primary (special education classes for ages 3 and 4) through fifth grade. Students are organized by grade-level teams. Students receive math and reading instruction in grade-level groupings. Teachers use numerous instruction strategies to challenge children who are working at different levels. Dawes is one of the district's four Two-Way Immersion (TWI) schools for our students with limited proficiency in English (LEP).
    • DEWEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
      Dewey School is a K-5 elementary school that is organized in self-contained homerooms. Teachers at each grade level work as a team to plan instruction, monitor the academic progress of students, and plan special grade level activities and units of study. In addition to the District curricula, Dewey offers an array of optional enrichment and extracurricular programs including foreign language, student newspaper, sport, drama, music, art, writing, science, and chess activities. Dewey is one of the district's four Two-Way Immersion (TWI) schools for our students with limited proficiency in English (LEP).
    • KINGSLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
      Kingsley School serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Originally built in 1965, Kingsley closed in 1979 during the era of declining student enrollments. In 1991, Kingsley reopened and has since been home to hundreds of terrific students, parents, volunteers, and staff each year. The faculty has a justified reputation as a 'can-do' kind of staff tackling important educational issues and implementing innovative practices. Recent examples have included the Kingsley Literacy Project, an intensive three-year plan addressing reading and writing, and creative implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support).

    • LINCOLNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
      Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are organized in self-contained homerooms. The homeroom teacher is responsible for forming flexible instructional groups to best meet the needs of the students in all instructional areas. Teachers at each grade level meet on a regular basis to discuss curriculum, assess student progress and plan team events and activities.

    • NICHOLS MIDDLE SCHOOL
      The educational program at Nichols Middle School, which serves grades 6 through 8, reflects the best practices in the nation, including multiage team units, interdisciplinary instruction, and advisor/advisee programs. WPA murals adorn the corridor walls.

    • OAKTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
      Kindergarten classes are self-contained at Oakton School. Students receive math and reading instruction in grade-level groupings. Oakton is one of the district's four Two-Way Immersion (TWI) schools for our students with limited proficiency in English (LEP). The new Oakton website will be coming soon.

    • ORRINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
      Orrington School is a short walk from three prestigious institutions— Northwestern University, National-Louis University and Kendall College—and is one block from the historic Evanston Lighthouse. The school building was constructed in 1910 and has many of the interesting architectural features of its vintage. Students are instructed in heterogeneous homeroom settings for all subjects. Teachers employ strategies such as flexible grouping and project-based instruction. A wide array of activities and enrichment clubs are available, including science, ecology, chess, drama, art, chorus, dance, sports, student council and foreign language.

    • WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
      Students are assigned to grade-level classrooms with six collaborative teaching teams, one for each grade level, kindergarten through fifth grade. All K-5 students are taught in their homerooms for all subjects. Washington is one of the district's four Two-Way Immersion (TWI) schools for our students with limited proficiency in English (LEP).

      Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School was founded in 1995 as Timber Ridge Magnet School. The school presently provides a student-to-teacher ratio of 20-to-1, with a maximum of two classes per grade level. All content area classes, with the exception of sixth through eighth grade math, are self-contained with instruction provided by the homeroom teacher. Consultative services are provided by content area specialists. Classes are heterogeneously grouped. The academic program is based on two principle components: the District 65 curriculum and technological strategies.

      The Martin Luther King, Jr. Laboratory School, a kindergarten through eighth grade magnet school, promotes a positive climate for learning and reflects the belief that learning grows out of motivation, curiosity and interest.     • PARK SCHOOL
      Park School focuses on the needs of students who have learning and/or physical challenges. Students are ages 3 - 21 and share the goal of maximizing their strengths toward preparation for an inclusive and happy adult life. The school day is divided into 8 periods: readiness, reading, writing, math, homeliving skills, physical education, vocational skills and job placement. Art and music are also part of the school week. Students can also benefit from related services provided in the school, including speech-language, social work, occuaptional therapy, physical therapy, hearing impairment services and vision impairment services, as indicated on their Individualized Education Plan.

      At age 16 many students are placed in jobs in the Evanston community. By the time they graduate, students have experienced several different job placements giving them a choice of opportunities as an adult. Many of Park's alumni continue to work in jobs they had as a student at Park.
